Hey there Fern Pixel,

I have suffered with UC for nearly half my life. 15 Years! Every time I have a flare I learn more and more about things I can do to live the best life possible. While I have yet to find the right combination for my system, I don't give up. I keep exploring and keep growing. I have a lot to share in the areas of health and healing and believe that we can all learn from each other.

It took me 15 years to see a video clip of you on YouTube explaining the SCD. I am currently experimenting with it and am hopeful that it will transcend my health into to new realms.

So really I wanted to thank you for your humor and insight. You are light and have been given a blessed gift to share with the world.

ooh!oooh! can i complain? I want my biopsy results already! C'mon NHS! You've had them for 2months now! I'm sure they're normal and all, but given you ripped out little bits of my gut, i feel i deserve to know what they were like (yes, I know, and i will go ask about it tomorrow, but wanted to get some complaining in just because). and if it's the small things, i have to say i'm super impressed with your ability to swallow that colonoscopy prep stuff. i FAIL at that (though i did manage to take it all...just not fast enough).

I wish I knew also... I'm still working on it even...

I wish I knew also... I'm still working on it even today.

Along the way I learned a few things:

1) Complaining doesn't solve anything.
2) Comparing yourself to others doesn't make sense. Everyone has to work at their own pace and eventually your time will come if you want it badly enough.
3) Celebrate your accomplishments even if they are small.
4) Nothing comes easy so nothing can ever replace hard work.
5) Keep things simple.

Everything you eat is a carb. It depends what "kind" of carb you're referring to.

I found some info that lists the different kinds of carbs. I think you might find the list helpful. (The soup would be considered "Dietary fiber carbohydrates"). :)

1) Sugar-carbs are found in a range of natural food, including milk (containing lactose, or milk sugar), fruits (containing fructose, or fruit sugar) and sugar beet (containing sucrose).

2) Starch-carbs are found in all cereal grains, as well as roots and tubers. Starchy foods include: bread, pasta, rice, noodles, couscous, tapioca, potatoes, sweet potatoes and yams.

3) Dietary fiber carbohydrates (soluble and insoluble fiber) are found in most plant foods, like fruits and vegetables, legumes and whole grain cereals.

taking the first dose of kleenprep now...trying to figure out how on earth i can do this four times as i'm only halfway through the retched stuff. I can't figure out how you drank a whole glass of your prep in one go...i always think the memory MUST be worse than the reality...it MAY be better than Fleets, but i am not sure...the vanilla and aspartame are rather an odd addition...

I've thought about all the things you have posted about! I'm so jealous of other people that don't think twice about their poop. I wonder if I will grow old (I'm 32 now, I've had UC since I was 23 at least, just diagnosed in 08). I'm hoping that a cure will be found soon. I wasn't diagnosed until after I was married tho I had symptoms before we were married. I told my husband if I end up with a bag he is still stuck with me. I have 2 children. One before I knew I had UC, the second I became pregnant just 2 months after I was diagnosed (surprise!). I was in a flare when I became pg the second time. After a short round of pred (which is perfectly safe during pregnancy!) I was in remission the rest of my pregnancy. Per my GI if one parent has UC then the child will have only a 15% chance of getting it. I have breastfed both of my girls, I feel like this will give them a better chance at NOT getting UC. I'll do my best to make sure they are not over prescribed antibiotics like I was growing up. I totally understand how you feel - you're not alone!

Not meaning to be creepy but I think this is the first time I've wanted to hug a complete stranger.

I was dating someone and had a bad flare up that ended with surgery a year and a half ago. She broke up with me shortly after the surgery. I've really distanced myself from others since then. I've been on SCD and it really helps but makes it difficult to impossible to hang out with people, especially new people since everything revolves around eating.

I'm glad you keep going and have some hope, no matter how small. I myself have a very hard time maintaining any sort of positive attitude though I try sometimes. I think it helps reading your blog, thanks for that. Take care.

That sounds about right. I was trying to describe it to my mom once and came up with somebody dragging a heavily studded mace through your gut--but that was mild compared to some of my earlier flares. I think my body decided it didn't like the pain and has dulled it since (wonder if that's possible)as even the bout that landed me in the hospital didn't hurt as much. The doc informed me that we needed to redefine "intolerable pain" as i was using that as the threshold and thus hadn't figured anything serious was wrong... but 7yrs on, things seem okay. have a 4yr overdue colonoscopy in a few weeks. can you believe they flavour the stuff with vanilla and aspartame? yuck. At least it's not Fleets--apparently it's no longer used due to kidney issues?

I didn't like the pills at all. My stomach couldn't handle them and I threw most of them back up (sorry TMI). If it works for you, I guess it would be better, but I think those with more sensitive digestive systems had better stay away from the pills. They're not small either. They're giant horse pills.

I have used the pills (Osmoprep) but drinking all the liquid is the worst part. The tablets are not coated so that nasty salty flavor is still there. Its really sad because after the gurgling and going was done I was actually so happy because for a few hours I didnt have any urgency symptoms (until I started eating again after the colonoscopy).

I'm curious to hear your update. I hope all is well. I also have UC and was referred to your YouTube channel first. Thanks for sharing your story. You provided me with lots of information. I've never really done tons of research on my condition. I just take the meds when I have too, see a Naturopath as a secondary measure to get off of the meds, etc. Thanks for sharing!
